Of the candidates currently running, Gary Johnson reminds me the most, of Charlie Brown.  He’s a good guy.  I know, that’s hard to fathom in this day and age, but they do still exist occasionally.  What’s more important at the moment, is that Gary Johnson is a valid political candidate running for President, and his presence in the polls is on the rise.  He’s the Libertarian party candidate, which means he believes in smaller government, fewer regulations and restrictions on business, or in your personal lives, and a more autonomous citizenry.  Under this type of government, creativity and invention flourish. Businesses are started, and grow. Work becomes available for more people, and productivity increases. People are happier, because they have the freedom to indulge themselves in speculative efforts; which sometimes pay off quite well.

Now, I know that we have two, very powerful, candidates running under different party banners.  It might seem impossible to dream of having such a good guy candidate actually win, but there is a scenario in which it might happen.  If the other two candidates cancel each others’s electoral college votes out, somewhat, so that neither of them have enough, if Gary can win a state, and pull just enough votes to keep either of them from winning flat out, then the decision goes to the Hill.  It would be something like what happened when Nixon Resigned, and his Vice President was already impeached.  Our congressmen and women made the decision who would be the President until the elections happened.  That’s how Gerald Ford became President after Nixon.  So Maybe, the congress wouldn’t like either of the two powerful candidates enough and would choose Gary.

Maybe that’s what his campaign rallying cry should be. Choose Gary.

threegraces

I have five beautiful daughters.  Each is their own type of beautiful; no two really alike, though there are similarities among them.  None of them realize just how much they mean to me, individually, or collectively. All of them are strong women, each handling difficult situations in their own way, and facing challenges and obstacles with determination and perseverance. The learning curves are steep for all of them, as the examples they had to model themselves on weren’t very good (Yes, I’m talking about myself and their fathers). Though each had their own advantages as well, whether they recognize them, or not.

I had my own challenges and obstacles to overcome. I’m still dealing with the fall out from a chaotic child hood, where, yes, sometimes bad things happened, but there was good in it, as well.  The tough part is sorting out the chaff from the grain.  Unfortunately, my daughters were born in the middle of that sorting process. After many years, I finally learned to let go of anger at my parents for not being perfect, but not before my daughters were already grown.  I realized, at long last, that each of my parents did as well as they were able, with what they understood.  Sometimes that grieves me, but I accept that they are who they are.  I hope, that someday my daughters can do the same for me.

Our individual levels of what we understand to be good, vary widely.  The material we are made of, how we respond to our various stimuli, sets the boundaries that we work within, with the gifts  we are given upon entrance to this world, and the experiences we collect traveling through it. I hope I live up to my best potential; although, sometimes I fear that sloth will be the finish of my dreams.  Or maybe it’s my frequent low energy levels that keep me from accomplishing my goals, though I doubt it.

Some of my goals don’t require a lot of energy, they just need me to get started on them.  Once I begin a painting, there is usually no problem finishing it.  I just have trouble getting started on stretching a new canvas, and applying the first dab of paint to it. Being in school again, helps me with some of that.  Where there is a requirement, I tend to follow through.  I just need to get myself to believe I have a requirement to get my own ideas onto canvas, or translated into real pieces, so all those things I want to show my daughters, and the world, will exist in a dimensional reality, and not just in my head.

I hope that my daughters find it easier to get started on their dreams, and aren’t afraid to find out how they’ll turn out.  I hope each of my daughters have their own dreams, and hopes.  Ultimately, I dream we will all get to know each other better, and be able to appreciate the grace that is in each other.

If you’ve been reading the last few posts, you know that I was nominated for a Sunshine Award (why, is still a mystery) by Lila, of Lila’s Twist.  I posted this and the rules for it and then nominated a few of my favorite bloggers as I was supposed to do.

One of my favorite bloggers re-nominated me for the same award.

Thank you Anne. Anne is a Professional Astrologer, that is, I am updating my previous post with correct material supplied by the ever truthful and delightful Anne, who stated  “I have a Diploma in Psychological Astrology (1998) from my studies with Dr Liz Greene and the late Charles Harvey at the Centre for Psychological Astrology in London.”    So you should Still definitely go check out her blog, Writings from the Twelfth House, http://anne-whitaker.com/weblog/, especially if you want to know anything about how astrology Really works.

This time I will answer ten more questions about myself. That is, last time I simply said if you wanted to know ten things about me, you should read my posts, because there are more than ten answers in them.  Yes, that was sort of cheating.   Anne has kindly allowed me the opportunity of repenting of my sin of cheating.

My ten answers are found below:

1.)   My hair doesn’t like to curl, and won’t stay that way without Lots of hairspray (It feels like plastic then).

2.)   My shoe size has changed from a 5 to a 6 1/2 in the last ten years, and no, I didn’t grow taller.

3).   I used to have difficulty finding a belt that would fit me, as most belts were too long. Now I don’t have that problem.

4.)   I learned to ride horses as a child using bailing twine as a halter and reins, and no saddle.

5.)    My favorite color has always been deep purple.

6.)    As there are nine different nationalities in my genetic make-up, my favorite answer on all those forms that require me to choose something is “American”.   Yes, I do feel that is a legitimate answer.

7.)    I believe if we all rebelled and put “American” on the forms under Other, we would all be better off.

8.)    My priorities aren’t always the same as everyone else’s.  I have a tendency to look at the long view, and not just the immediate bottom line.

9.)    I’m a terrific service person. When I’m in a position of service, I love helping people find what they need and want.

10.)  I tend to be truthful. Sometimes that isn’t what people want.  Sometimes the truth hurts, but that wasn’t what I was trying to do.  I don’t enjoy hurting people, I just prefer clarifying what the reality that I am living in is really like.

Well there.  My penance is done.  Have a lovely day everyone.

I’m a little speechless (but not so much that I can’t write Anything) (see, I wrote “Anything”)  (OK, enough with the lame jokes)

Now that I’ve got that little bit of inner dialogue out of the way I’ll get to the reason I’m writing today.  Someone, and they shall Not remain nameless,  Lila, from the blog Lila’s Twist , nominated me for a Sunshine Award.

Needless to say, I was floored.  My jaw dropped and my mind went nearly blank.  My emotions went from excited to humbled in half a second.  What did I write that inspired someone to Nominate me?  Worse yet, could I ever write anything to inspire someone again?  Would I Want to have that specter hanging over my head every time I wrote anything?

Well, obviously it hasn’t prevented me from typing away in here.

So what is a Sunshine award?  Below is the Logo.

It appears that there are a few rules to accepting this award:

1) Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.
2) Answer 10 questions about yourself.
3) Nominate other fabulous bloggers.
4) Link your nominees to this post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.
5) Share the love and link the person who nominated you.

So obviously I have accomplished rule one;

Rule two has been accomplished if you read my posts, you’ll find that I have answered more than a few questions about myself;

I will henceforth go out and locate other fabulous bloggers and nominate them for the award (you’ll find links to them below, thus fulfilling rule four as well);

and five, has already been done (see the second paragraph).

Nominee number one is:

1)      http://year-struck.com/

Whose way with words never fails to inspire me.

2)     http://becomingmadame.wordpress.com/

Your Recipe for Stewed Chestnuts to pour over an entree made my day, not to mention a whole week of meal menus 🙂

3)      http://anne-whitaker.com/2012/09/17/holy-dharma-with-heron-2/

This post made me want to go for a hike along the nature trail and maybe over the trestle bridges too.  Sunshine indeed!

4)     http://aninepoundhammer.com/

Your photographs are breathtaking sunshine in and of themselves.  Thank you.

5)     http://prettyfeetpoptoe.com/

She has a way with a rant that makes you laugh, making your day a little lighter, so yes, she deserves a sunshine award too.

I hope you all enjoy your awards as much as I have mine, and for those of you reading this that didn’t get nominated….  There is something wrong with the way the internet or my computer is behaving today because there wree several of you that I wanted to link to but the link never opened up…. I hope that doesn’t mean that you aren’t there anymore.

Take care and have a great Sunshiny day 🙂

First, I want to thank all my followers.  You are wonderful.  The joy I get from seeing that little notification that someone else has liked and is following my blog is matched only by the joy of seeing someone’s face light up when I’ve done something for them.   Thank you for checking out my work.  I do go to your sites and check your’s as well.  I hope I have remembered to push the little button each time, but I confess, that sometimes I get lost in perusing the material, past and present, and then get distracted by some ordinary everyday thing that demands my attention and I might miss doing that once in a while.

So of course you are wondering why I have that title up there?  I know that title sounds ominous.  What kind of person asks that kind of question?  It’s not that I don’t appreciate being able to locate things because they’ve been put in likely locations.  In this instance, it’s because nobody Else knows where to look, or maybe they really don’t care to look.  I’m a little afraid to find out.

In this instance, I’m talking about being organized as a blogger.  You see, I split my blog up into parts, to make it less diverse.  I have a recipe section now, (but it’s mostly about taking care of your thyroid) and I have a poetry blog, and one that’s pretty much all about political values.

I know that I sometimes get people on the poetry blog because I now have some followers there.  I don’t have so much going on with the other two.  Maybe it’s because there isn’t any interest in looking at them.  I suppose that’s fair.  Perhaps my followers here are more interested in the personal aspects of my life, and less about what I have to say about political things or health things.  Still, I can’t help be disappointed that those sites aren’t getting viewed as well, or maybe that’s greedy of me.

Perhaps I should just be very contented that I have followers on two sites.  When I consider it that way, that is pretty awesome to me.  Wow.  How could I want for more?  Is it worth it being organized?  Perhaps.  If only so that I don’t bore my followers with things they aren’t interested in.

Thank you for reading my musings and rants, and have a great day!

Thank you to Ifindkarma for the lovely picture of organizing boxes.

Authority figures of Colu

Our government has been engaged in the effort to force people to help each other.

It has frequently postured that we aren’t good enough to each other on our own, and that it must take more from one group of people and give it to another group of people to keep them from suffering or going without.

The idea that necessity is the Mother of invention has been ignored and stifled by edict and regulation.

This maneuver is supposed to have no negative effects, only positive ones; but so far, I haven’t observed this one way street in action.

I have observed the populous that is handed this benevolence become lacking in drive or ambition, through the shoddily crafted legislation that prohibits any of the recipients from using their helping support to get themselves ahead.

I have observed that as long as benefits are available, they will be used up (no spendthrifts we, with Other people’s money).

I have observed that those who are taken from in this manner reduce their willing donations to those in need, because someone else is already taking care of that for them.

I have observed that those who take this benevolence end up resenting the assistance, because they are never credited with any ability to make improvements on their own, and are punished financially when they try.

I have observed the growing detachment and resentment of both sides of this scenario.

You can’t legislate morality.

It must be taught with love and compassion and understanding, and a steady dose of reflection on the pains that we cause others by our misdeeds.

It must be taught with active involvement in helping those less fortunate, and the first hand observation of the joy that helping gives to others.

It must be taught with humility and gratitude that we are able to help others.

It must be taught by those who are closest to the  ones needing to be taught.

It must be taught by those who are the immediate authority figures, by example and by kindness; preferably by their parents, and always by those entrusted with their teaching at the public level.

This, Dear Government, can’t be forced, or coerced by government edict.

It must be willingly available through the good will of the citizenry.

If this is not available, we will fail, and we will continue to have atrocities.

The more restrictions and interference the government imposes on the lives of the citizenry, the more stress the society will be under, and the  more people will forget that they are neighbors, and seek to marginalize and eliminate those who are not in a position to help them.

The more force and intimidation is brought to bear on us all, the more a lack of compassion will rule our society,

and bring down all of us,

and our children’s children’s children.

Butterfly

I’ve been considering consulting a psychic about how, or if I should pursue building my business.  I’ve been doing some work on my own for a couple of years now, and just last year I paid a hefty fee for getting it incorporated, but my overhead is still way too high and I’ve moved it to another state (in spite of another hefty fee for changing the principle address of my business) to cut the costs down.  Still, I’m not sure how I’m going to meet expenses at my current rate of business.  I may have to diversify and bring in revenue from different sources to keep it going.

As many of you have already heard, our President just gave us all a rousing good talking to about our modern way of creating a business.  Apparently, I’ve been going about it all the wrong way.  I’ve been thinking that I was in this all by myself.

Of course not, he tells me.  I’ve had good teachers that gave me the opportunity to learn to read (oops, I thought that was my parents job, since I was reading way ahead of my grade level in school), I’ve had government that built the roads I use (wasn’t that paid for by tax dollars from already thriving businesses before they were built?),  and infrastructure that was in place before I was born (telephone systems were installed by private enterprise weren’t they?  and paid for by the customers?).  Hmmmm…  Oh and the Internet, that was conceived of by the government (as an in-house system) and then jumped on by everyone else…… (Micro-soft was begun as a private business wasn’t it?  and Apple? and IBM? and Sun Systems?  when were they government owned?) who didn’t have to pay for them (thank goodness I can get all this computer stuff for free…  ooops, maybe not.)

Well, I certainly want to thank everyone out there who has contributed to my business success. Now I can breathe easy because I won’t have to worry about where my business is going to find it’s customers, or how I’m going to pay for the Insurance for it or the marketing costs, or the delivery system, or the software or the… wait a minute…. do you mean to tell me that I still have to pay for all of that Myself!???

Well…. If I have to build my business all by myself, and then still pay the government for the privilege of doing it, why should I bother to do it at all?  I’m sure the government will take care of me if I don’t.  My President has said they were the source I should credit for everything we have.

Christ Jesus Mormon

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints  (Photo credit: More Good Foundation)

I read a fun little poem recently on another blog with a post called “Is the Church a Zoo” that spoke of the different types of people observed in church and how they shared traits with a variety of animals.  Different animal behaviors were exhibited by the same people over different activities.  It’s a fun poem, and a philosophical puzzle.  There were many reactions to it which agreed with the sentiment, and some even pointed out that some of those behaviors were why they no longer went to church.  There were a few commenters who stated that they observed their faith by staying home and studying and praying on their own.  This item was what gave me pause and a reason to write here again.

I cannot fault those who feel that the weaknesses of others is a good reason to not participate in church.  I have done this myself.  Having said that, I will also say, that I repent me of having done that.  Not being involved doesn’t make the others More involved.  It just deprives the body of the church of yet another person who Could have been helpful, but chose Not to be.  What is an organized church for, after all, if not to make it easier to become aware of the needs of others, and for them to become aware of our needs.  How else can we follow in the footsteps of Christ if we won’t look for and actively engage ourselves in ministering to the needs of others.  This is Not solely the job of the pastor, but of All who profess willingness to follow in His footsteps.

We are all human, however, and as such, subject to these frequent failings.  Making the mistake of thinking that removing yourself from the body will somehow send a message that the body is sick and needs healing is simply adding insult to injury.  This observation does not make me more righteous than anyone else.  It just means that I have learned my lesson on this particular point.   There are many other points I have yet to work on.  Some of them, I have at least become aware of, so I have hope that I may yet improve on them.

One of the failings that I have become aware of is that of complacency, or laziness, whichever term you prefer.  I like the little rut I’m in and don’t like getting out of it.  This leaves some of the things I Should be doing sort of hanging…..  I have to Actively move myself into a state of activity outside of my own personal zone of comfort.  My complacent state of being finds this annoying.  My Spirit tells me that I Must do more.  So I will do more (sigh).   When I get to the point that I no longer think of this as annoying, but look forward to doing more for others, that is when I will have made some serious improvement in my effort to follow Christ.

I find that what I think of as More and what I actually do as more are somewhat different things, but there is hope yet, that I will live up to my own expectations of myself.  At least, if I move a little further out of my comfort zone, perhaps I will actually be able to benefit someone other than myself, and Maybe, just maybe, pay back some of what others (who have succeeded in moving out of Their comfort zones) have done for me  (At least those who are here in this world with me).  On the other hand, I know that I will Never be able to repay Christ for what He has done for me.  And He’s OK with that.  He only requires that I do the best that is in me by being as actively engaged as I can manage.  That’s all He requires of anyone.  Even you.

Crime Scene

Crime Scene (Photo credit: Alan Cleaver)

OK!  I’m sure I’m not the alone in reading about more than one cannibalistic killer in the world within the past three weeks.  I’m sure I’m not alone in considering this behavior to be bizarre, and even more so that there have been Several cases by Different people in diverse places.  Some readers have stated they believe that the recreational use of Bath Salts may be at fault, but there has been no confirmation of that as the cause.

Other readers have even gone so far as to draw analogies with flesh eating Zombies.  Oh if only that were what this was. If it were  Zombies that were responsible, then we could excuse the behavior as a side effect of a virus, the way that Rabies makes people and animals lose control.

But that Isn’t what is happening here.  These cannibals live in our cities, have no responsible attacking virus, and work among us all as though they were decent human beings!  This madness has even been filmed and sent to the internet as a video by one Canadian man who has since been caught, after an international chase found him in Germany.

Is This a new kind of crime wave? A more gruesome kind of depravity to look forward to in the coming years?  I thought about putting this post in my Political blog, but this isn’t a political problem.  It’s a spiritual one.  These crimes point out a deep divide between what a society Says it believes in, and what it’s actually promoting.  These crimes aren’t just about personal frustration, they are about rage, and hate, and brutality on display for a larger public viewing.

Not unlike the terrorist activity, where people in public places are killed by large explosions; these crimes are meant to be horrific, and to elicit horrified reactions, whether just from the victim, or from a larger public as well.   Even when the perpetrator of the crime is hallucinating, these reactions are still outrageous.  One would Hope that this is not the behavior that was taught as proper by whatever authority raised these persons. This behavior is still way outside what is considered acceptable, so even within a hallucination, it is Still an unacceptable reaction.

How did we get this way?  When did our society become so enamored of  graphic and outrageous behavior that this type of gruesome activity could be considered by any perpetrator?  Did it begin with the talk show circuit?  The public display of unusual and decadent behaviors by one or another of a couple?  Did it enter into the thought cycle with the advent of “Reality” shows, which are set up to be confrontational and to promote irrational behaviors for the ratings that would generate?  Was it because of the attention that international terrorist activity gets, that our usual, run of the mill criminal mind suddenly gets grandiose ideas for attention getting by this means?

Some people would say that these behaviors have always been around, and we are just seeing more of them because we have the internet, but really, these types of behaviors have made the news in other times, and have been talked about world wide as well, the way that Jack the Ripper was, or that the Boston Strangler was, or the Lindberg Kidnapping.  They made the news internationally too, and they didn’t have the internet then.  So I don’t think this behavior is always out there.  It seems to be a periodic type of behavior. The last time there was a world wide tracking of it was prior to World War I.  I hope that an increase in cannibalism is not an indicator of another world wide event of that nature.

The spread of human cannibalism (anthropophagy...

The spread of human cannibalism (anthropophagy) in the late 19th century. The text to this map: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

How do we turn this around?  How do we make it once again, an unacceptable, never to be thought of, let alone carried out,  crime.  What do we do as a society to get back to a stronger moral footing?  Is there something we can choose as a People, that would discourage this behavior once again?

Do we choose Not to publish this type of behavior?  How about not publishing the neighbors dirty laundry?  Maybe we should go back to rolling up the sidewalks on Sundays; no businesses open, and encourage more people to attend some kind of church service, to be reminded that there will be an accounting for our choices.  What will it take for people to Not want to consider eating each other as a form of punishment/criminal attention getting?  How has this modern society fallen so far?!

I am moving to a new area.  I have never lived there before, and I don’t have any relatives, or boyfriends, or even acquaintances there to cushion the move.  I don’t have a job waiting for me, and I  don’t have a load of income to back me up, though I do have some very good people Here who are helping to finance this move.  My daughter and I are moving there in her last year of High School to establish residency in the state that we have chosen for her to go to University in.   We are moving on faith.  We believe this is the right move for both of us to make at this time.  We are both excited about this new beginning.  Though the way forward is not clear, yet we feel good about it.  Feeling your way in the dark can be exciting.

The one thing I do have in the new area that is the same, is a Church that is the same denomination as the one I am leaving here.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Even though where I am moving to is a Very small town, there is a Church there.  The members on both ends of this move have already been really helpful to me.  They have helped load, and unload a twenty foot truck for me already.  I have some more moving to do, a couple of trailers worth, I believe, and some of the same friends on this end who will be helping me to load it, and unload it.  It would be horribly remiss of me to take any 0f these people for granted.  They are extraordinary.  I pray that that Good Being who set us here on this path of exploration will bless all of them in their journey, and prosper them, and help them realize their dreams.

I hope that the new course I am traveling will prove fertile.  I am changing directions; making a radical shift in my thinking, but in reality, I am also revisiting my oldest and best talents.   I so hope that the richness of experience I bring to those talents will blossom in the medium and grow beautiful creations.

Lately, I have been writing, but I am also going back to painting, and other creative, and I hope useful occupations.  I am tired, now, of attempting to contribute something useful to the world in the way of analytical and practical and meaningful only to have those efforts tossed back in my face as dross because they didn’t  fit with someone else’s agenda of power seeking and personal ego gratification.  Whether that fight is worth fighting, I will leave to others who are probably more suited to the mental maneuvering necessary to politics, and bureaucracy.  Perhaps, in my need to not get put in a box, I have only removed myself from doing those things that truly let me get out of the box.

Wish me luck, and perhaps, even if undeserved, blessings on this new leg of my journey.

How to Be a Serial Killer

Image via Wikipedia

English: Lobby area for the Blue Cross and Blu...

Image via Wikipedia

The Journal of Medical Ethics recently accepted an article for publication from two people, Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva, who label themselves as “bio-ethicists“.  The paper that was accepted for publication in late February of 2012, declared that, “When circumstances occur after birth such that they would have justified abortion, what we call after-birth abortion should be permissible.”  Funny, the last time I looked “Bio” meant “Life”, and “Ethics” meant activities which were “Good”.  When did taking the life of a living human being become “good”?  Even taking the life of a serial killer isn’t “good”. It may be necessary to protect the lives of others, but it isn’t “good”

The publication of this paper in the Journal of Medical Ethics was reported in the Washington Times on Monday, March 12, of 2012, by Rep. Christopher H. Smith ,  who declared the rationale to be false and the activity to be nothing short of  murder.  I have to agree with him, as should any respecter of life.  The minute you accept the reasoning behind this paper, is the minute you declare Yourself to be not worth keeping alive.

If the right to life is not accepted as a standard that is extended to all live human beings, across the board, then there is no right to life at all. This is not a rationale that indicates a civilized society, nor one of love for one’s fellow human beings, nor one which should make Anyone, in Any group of people feel comfortable in their “right” to existence and respect from other human beings.  This rationale can be extended to anyone at any time for what ever “reason” they want to tack on to it, in order to “justify” killing people.

What I find equally disturbing to the premise that a baby can be considered not worth keeping alive, is that the so called, “Journal of Medical Ethics” accepted this paper for publication.  The Journal of Medical Ethics does not have to accept a paper for publication if they don’t agree that the reasoning is sound.  They did accept the paper for publication; therefore, ipso facto, they agreed that the reasoning behind this paper was “sound.”  What does this say about who we look to for declaring good medical practices?

Then, there is the amazing coincidence that these two “bio-ethicists” are apparently of Italian heritage, and this article smacks of the similar things that were declared in Italy prior to WWII.  Did they dig up the old papers and just re-hash those declarations?  or did they just come up with these insideous ideas all by themselves.  How is it that we have forgotten so soon the atrocities and the lessons of that war?   It hasn’t been that long people!  Where are your hearts?  Where are your heads?  Where is your compassion, and love of living?  Or are those things only reserved for those who write medical papers and publish them?  How sad that we earth bound have come so low, yet again; and now this insideous justification shows up Here, on Our shores, in Our publications, in Our philosophy.  Shame on us.

Now I would like to address the issue of Polygamy and the numerous comments made about “Mormon” beliefs.

The practice of polygamy was instituted in the early Church to address a serious shortage of men within the church, and the fact that people had a problem with supporting the widows and orphans under their trying circumstances.

There were many individuals who felt that just taking care of their own family was already too difficult and that they couldn’t afford to assist people outside their family unit.  Obviously, this left the only feasible way to solve the dilemma, short of forced donations (which the Church has never been wont to do) as being done within a family unit; therefore, to do so and maintain righteousness, it would involve marriage.

There is some discrepancy on the reporting of the numbers, but everyone agrees it was never more than five percent of the males that had more than one wife, and some posit it as being as few as two percent.

No man could marry more than one wife without the consent of his first wife.

The wives owned the property.  If a wife wanted out, she was welcomed to do so, and she took her property with her.

The Prophet Brigham Young, who was married to 17 women, had several of them divorce him.  Not because he was a bad man, but because they didn’t become the favorite, or couldn’t get their way, or because they couldn’t get along with the rest of the family members.  In a family that large, this is not hard to imagine occurring. No one replaced the First wife.

Marrying these women was  a way to make sure of their support. There was no thought of getting around a no cheating rule.  It was not a way to have some kind of harem.

Were some plural marriages more successful than others?  Sure.  As in all relationships, the parties within the marriage were responsible for their own happiness,  If they were cheerful, and cooperative with each other, and lived righteously, there was more harmony; if not, than not so much.

When the United States passed a law, outlawing polygamy well after the civil war was over ( It was not illegal before that), then The Church, as is in keeping with the beliefs of being subject to the laws of the land, stopped supporting plural marriages in the states.  Some of the members who had had successful marriages and had lots of children, etc.  moved to Mexico so as to not be where it was illegal.

Some of the men who had plural wives at the time of the passing of the law went to jail rather than have to choose to divorce one of their wives.

Some got divorced from all but one woman, and some plural marriages came to an end through natural consequences.

It had been over forty years since the institution of this practice, and the imbalance of women to men worked itself out, for the most part.

As to the ones today who call themselves Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints….  They are Not members of  Christ’s Church, but of doctrine of their own devising.  Those who follow their doctrine do so for their own reasons, and not because it is a correct tradition.

Bishops' Storehouses

There have been people who complained that the reason they became non-religious, was because the people in the churches were so imperfect.  I too have seen the imperfections of humanity, and once upon a time, I too withdrew my support from official religions because I was incensed that the people weren’t more perfect.

I could have continued in this path of indifference, being perfectly right in my position of “the people aren’t perfect enough”, and it would have gotten me exactly nowhere. Nor would it have changed anything within the church except to leave it one body shorter of those who Could have been doing something to assist each other.

God saw fit to withdraw His support from me during this time (turn about is fair play).  I was allowed to suffer the full effect of the buffetings of the world.  Without His protection to keep me from harm, without His spirit to guide me in my choices, without His angels to watch over and protect me in my efforts, I became just another casualty of a dog-eat-dog world.  I met the man who would become my husband during this time.  Things went well for a while, but then, I changed jobs, and some issues which hadn’t been issues until then, suddenly became issues.

Once brought down low, and in need of assistance (no work,no money to pay bills, no food) my husband suggested that we turn to the local food banks at the local Christian churches.  When he said this, I looked at Him, and with a sinking heart I said, “If we are going to do that, we might as well go to the one that does it the best.”  He asked me what I meant by that, and I told him about The Church welfare department.

So we went to church together, and he met the congregation of people that I had left some five years before.  It was only a little changed since I had been there.  Some people had moved out, and others had moved in, but it was largely the same human family. We asked the Bishop for some food assistance.  He said gladly, but also, the ward could help us with some other bills as well, like utilities.   We were overjoyed at this blessing.  Thank you.

Even though I had told my husband about the welfare program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he was still surprised at the extent of it.  He held up a can of Chicken noodle soup and exclaimed, “They have their own canning factory?”

Actually, the members do that themselves with volunteer labor.  I have been part of groups that volunteered time in both canning chicken noodle soup, and wrapping cheese for shipping before.  It is a balance between a very efficient human chain, and a mechanical process.  It is very well managed.  The whole process is very efficient.

There are many Bishop’s storehouses scattered all over; tucked away in small industrial neighborhoods mostly. They are centers for charitable giving, both temporal and spiritual.

I am grateful beyond belief for this eye-opening experience; to have finally understood my place in the chain of service; to have been able to see, finally, that I was just as imperfect as the ones I was pointing fingers at; to understand that our imperfections are the very reason for Christ’s atonement; and the reason that we all finally stand before God with fear and trembling to work out our eternal salvation; and to know, without a shadow of a doubt that God loves even me, imperfect as I am, and that His love is so all encompassing that He will show me the error of my ways, if I am but willing to look, and set my feet back on the path to home.

Moses with the Ten Commandments

Image via Wikipedia

This post a direct result of reading Two other blogger’s posts.  Both of them had something to say that I wanted to respond to, and did in comments, but I would like to expand on those comments here.  Rob Slavens Post was an agnostic’s view of  the Ten commandments , and the other one, was from a link in the post below that, about On Tebow, written by Grant Dawson in Remotely Nowhere.

Rob Slaven was complaining that the Ten Commandments seemed sort of Vain and common sense if not trivial, with the exception of one or two pretty decent ones.  He’s right, if you think of the Ten Commandments as the end all and be all of what God wants and expects of us; however, remember that the Ten Commandments were the Second set of plates that came down the mountain.

The children of Israel were partying pretty hard by the time Moses came down the first time. That  first set, the one that got all smashed up, were the higher law, that Moses and God decided the then current crop of children of Israel weren’t ready for yet, and so they were given the kindergarten version.  The lower law.

The first half of the Lower law lays out things you Should do.  The be good stuff.  The Second half of the Ten Commandments lays out all the Shouldn’ts.  Basically, if you can’t handle doing the good things, then for Heaven’s sake, and your soul’s sake, don’t do these other, bad things.

The Higher law is available, but people still have a hard time with the lower law, so….    Well, if you’re the sort who can handle the lower law, then maybe you’re ready for the higher one.

Remember in Matthew, chapter 22, verses 36 – 40, the pharisees asking Christ what was the Greatest law? And Christ responded, “To Love God with all your heart might, mind, and strength, and the second was like unto it; To love thy neighbor as thyself.  On these hang all the law and the prophets.”

Somewhere in there is the key to the higher law.  If we can do these things successfully…… everything else is covered.

Ron Paul

Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts,...

Ron Paul, and his supporters, know what it’s like to have their words taken out of context and used to malign them unfairly.  As a result, being the fair man that he is, Ron Paul took a nearly unprecedented step during a Presidential Primary run to defend one of his fellow candidates , Mitt Romney, who was getting that treatment, yet again.

Mitt Romney was describing, to a rapt  audience in New Hampshire, his philosophy of keeping businesses honest, and hardworking, by saying that he Liked being able to fire people who provide services to him.

After all, what happens in a business that you can’t fire?  It tends to get cocky, arrogant, and self-serving.  Instead of providing good service to you, you end up just being the vehicle to providing more money to the ever increasing demands from the company. This is Not a good business to consumer relationship model.

As an example, lets look at what has happened to service from our city/county utilities.  First, they tend to have removed as much as possible, the face to face contact.  In our area, you have to go to a bill paying service center that is mostly about check cashing, and otherwise is about paying several different bills in cash.  And on top of all that, you have to Pay this bill paying service center more money to let you pay your bill here. Of course, you Can pay them electronically…. but again, there is no personal contact.

Then, the utility companies removed as much as possible of the voice to voice contact, sending customers through an ever expanding menu of options designed primarily to frustrate the user, wear you down, and prevent you from actually solving problems.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve gotten to where I just hold the phone for five minutes while it runs through it’s litany of menu choices and let it finally decide that I must be one of the three people in the nation still using a dial phone, and then it will let me talk to an Actual person, whereupon I usually get Much better results (Usually).

Or, how about the Cable company.  Do they give good service?  I remember when they first came into existence, and people said, why do we want these guys?  We have free T.V. now.  And the Cable companies said, “We’ll keep the cost down.  It’ll be real low.”   And it was, for a little while, until the initial contract ran out, by which time people were hooked on the convenience of tuning in to Many more show choices, and the cable companies raised the rates.  A lot. And they make it difficult to return the equipment in a timely manner; And they charge you all kinds of extra fees…  I could go on, as I’m sure you all could too.

The same thing happens with retail companies that have a lock on market products in an area.  They too, become difficult to work with and start thinking that They are doing You a favor by letting you shop at their store.

Suffice it to say, if you don’t have choices, firing the people/companies who “Serve” you is difficult; then, You end up serving them instead.

Mr. Obama aspires to be a King, instead of a President, if his actions of late, and the addition of some very special language in the National Defense Authorization Act for 2012 are any indication.  In an editorial in the Washington Times, an attempt is made to dismiss the severity of the language in the new act, because it is obviously Unconstitutional, therefore, once someone takes their case to the Supreme Court, they will be exonerated…  Except that if a citizen is picked up under the auspices of this act, they will not have recourse to a lawyer, and so their case will never get to Any court, let alone the Supreme one.

In addition to desiring the power to pick-up any citizen of this country, suspending habeas corpus, and denying them the rights our forefathers so diligently argued for, and then fought and died for,  because someone labels them  a terrorist (who gets to decide what constitutes terrorism?),  Mr. Obama has also decided that he has the right to appoint anyone he wants into positions of unilateral power, without consent of the peoples representatives.  This is a highly illegal, and also Unconstitutional move on the part the leader of our country.

In Bahrain, the government protestors are getting picked up and disappearing, and never being heard from again.  The protesters didn’t have to do anything grievous to get put into the category of anti-governemt, and be eligible for this disappearing act, all they had to do was make a post on the internet that someone didn’t like.  If we allow our President to get away with the things he has proposed to do, to appoint people into positions of power without the people’s representation, to arrest and detain people without the right of habeas corpus, we are setting ourselves up for the same thing.

How far down this road do we have to go?  How many of our people will go missing because we do Nothing to stop this outrage?  It’s not just the leadership of our country that is in question; it is the deciding factor in our continued freedoms,  it is the way our country is governed;  it is our very way of life that is now in question.

Citizens, doing something includes registering to vote, choosing a candidate that you trust Not to abuse the powers they will be given, and telling your congressmen and women that you do Not approve of actions or decisions from your elected officials that go against the constitution of the land.  If your elected officials will not keep to the constitutional path, then you must choose a different person to elect into that position.  Do not reward greed, corruption, abuse of power, arrogance, and self-appointed privilege with another term in office.

Pass the word along everyone!  Working together we have more power than working alone.  We Need This Now!  Tell your Congressmen and women!  Tell your Senators.  We Will Not Be Ignored!

This is something the All of us can agree on; Not just Independents, not just Republicans, not just Democrats, not just Tea Partiers, and not just Occupy Wall Street protesters, But All of U.S.
It’s time we put an end to congressional privilege.
Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

“I could end the deficit in 5 minutes,” he told CNBC. “You just pass a  law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of  GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified!  Why? Simple!  The people demanded it. That was in 1971 – before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land – all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to
a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask
each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will
have the message.  This is one idea that really should be passed
around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011
1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they’re out of office.

2.  Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan,  just as all
Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message.  Don’t you think it’s time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

Pass it along!  Swell the Chorus! Raise your voices!  Let us all, at last, be heard!

Cancer CounselingI am thanking another blogger who took the time to share this Doctors article on how to die with dignity.  More to the point, what Not to have done in the event that you get diagnosed with a terminal illness, or have a horrifying accident that does major damage.  It’s refreshing to hear that not all medical professionals would encourage radical treatment for something, just because it is doable.  Doctors don’t ask to have all those treatments done on them.  They just go home and die peacefully in the loving arms of their family members, some times, months, or years later than their diagnoses had suggested.

It saddens me though, to realize that the social services and courts don’t have this mindset.  If they did, then that little boy with the cancer that he didn’t want treated with chemotherapy and radiation would have gotten his wish.  Instead, his parents got dragged into court, treated like criminals, and in the end, were forced to watch as their son underwent the full assault of possible treatments available in the U.S. for Cancer, though that was Not what He wanted.

Did we ever hear about how his “treatments” went?  Did we hear anything about his survival?  I’ve been watching, but I haven’t seen anything.  Have you?
